America, 2031. TV star Reuben Flagg is drafted to protect the citizens of Chicago as a Plexus Ranger, having pretended to be one onscreen. The inexperienced Flagg must tackle an America blighted by a biased and oppressive media, dubious 'wars', widespread political corruption and environmental disaster... Never-before-collected, this bitingly prescient satirical series is an all-time classic... Howard Chaykin's American Flagg! is one of the key moments in '80s comics history. As much of a phenomenon as Watchmen and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - American Flagg! was a massive-selling hit, breaking new ground in comics storytelling and influencing a generation of writers and artists. American Flagg! is set in 2031, in a world ravaged by nuclear conflict, environmental disasters, and nationalism that had driven the United States government - and the corporation that owned it - to the relative safety of the planet Mars. TV star Reuben Flagg is famous for portraying a Plexus Ranger on TV, so is drafted in order to protect the inhabitants of Chicago. The inexperienced Flagg must tackle an America blighted by a biased and oppressive media, dubious “wars”, widespread political corruption and environmental disaster... This is the first time this series has been collected, and the paper quality used here is of better quality than that used in the original comics run. However, because of the poor quality of the original paper, the illustrations seem to suffer when reproduced on clean, white, pages. Otherwise, this is an essential purchase for anyone who bought this on it's original run - or for those who enjoy intelligently plotted graphic novels. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online |
