Edmund Cavill is The Earlyman and it was through his involvement with the pioneering late 90’s soul/indie/hip hop outfit Spacek that he first gained musical notoriety. His signature distorted beats and futuristic soundscapes aren’t bound by genres or pigeon hole definitions, Cavill’s music reflects his mind's inner workings as much as it does his environment and influences.

The release of his EP, The Alpha EP, sees The Earlyman working with MC Kombo and Foreign Beggars and Infinite Lives. Although it’s short with 3 tracks on the EP it is certainly worth a listen.

This EP opens with 'Alpha feat. MC Kombo'. This track has a little of everything; a good melody, a good beat, great rapping vocals and lyrics - not to mention the use of futuristic sonics. I absolutely love the melody of the flute; everything in this track is slick and fits together really well.

'Slinky feat. Foreign Beggars and Infinite Lives' is the second track on this EP. This is a totally different style from 'Alpha'. It has a deeper feel and the bass is phat, mix this with rap, sonic sounds and a catchy chorus both lyrically and musically and there you have it; another cool track.

Alpha instrumental is just as good as the other tracks. Even without the rapping content it holds strong to itself. What does it for me in this track is, as I mentioned before, the melody of the flute. You would think that the combination of the softness of the flute, harshness of the guitar and the futuristic sonic beats that this sounds like a terrible mix, but they work so well together.
