Hafdis Huld started singing with Gus Gus, a nine piece Icelandic collective when she was just 15 years old. During the rest of her teenage years she toured the world, enjoying Europe-wide recognition and widespread attention across the UK and America.

Upon moving to the UK, Hafdis started writing her own songs and quickly collaborated with F.C. Kahuna, co-writing their singles, ‘Hayling’ and ‘Machine Says Yes’, at the same time starting to develop songs that would eventually form the basis of her solo album Dirty Paper Cup.

Last year saw Hafdis gigging in Europe, filming ad campaigns for Mercedes Benz and Reyka Vodka as well as guesting on Tricky’s ‘Knowle West Boy’.

It’s clear Hafdis has been busy and now she is back with a new single, a UK tour, a new website, a new management team, a new album underway and a rather lovely new hairstyle.

Hafdis’s new single entitled ‘Kongulo’ means spider in Icelandic and was inspired by Frenchman Alain Robert better known as the ‘human spiderman’ who climbs skyscrapers using just his bare hands.

'Kongulo' was recorded when Hafdis took a group of A-list musicians along with French grammy winning producer Calum MacColl to a remote studio in Yorkshire to record a bunch of new tracks.

"The place we recorded in was a converted barn with chickens wandering around outside," said Hafdis. "It snowed and we were all wrapped up in scarves and hats and gloves. It was quite homely and not at all glamorous or rock and roll."

This single has a warm, lively sound to it and this is probably down to the location and atmosphere from where it was recorded. Hafdis’s vocals are spot on and the percussion, guitar and strong beat give this song volume and life. Toward the end, backing singers come in and just finish off the sound to the track.

Having had a taster of what is to come for Hafdis’s next album, I can’t wait to hear it.

Beware of this single the catchy tune will be going round in your head for days.
