Bristol based production team Emptyset proud themselves on exploring techno music's wide influences and assembling them to a studio model which is heavily focused on tight production and detailed sound design.

Emptyset are said to act as a research project connecting the ideas of a modern dancefloor with experimental approaches to music and design.

Their new album, self entitled Emptyset, is inspired by the city's culture of bass lead production and has been described as techno meets dubstep folded back on to techno again.

This album consists of ten tracks all of which have no melodic tunes. This is pure bass, sine waves and lots of noise.

Upon first listening to this album, I thought what a load of nonsense but after listening a second time (although hard to do so!) I can see the work and effort that has gone into making this album. I listen to bits and think it's pure genius and I listen to other parts and think what a noise! To have an album with no melody whatsoever is very brave and difficult to pull off. Having said this I still think it's a lot of nonsense.

Emptyset are good at what they do and obviously have a great passion for it but this is not what I would call music. I have already mentioned that they are using this as a research project, maybe that's where it should have been left, on the shelf as research.

I don't think the UK is ready for this style of music, well I wouldn't even class this as music but sheer noise.

As long as Emptyset are enjoying what they do then all well and good but there is no need to put it out there for the undiscerning public to have to listen to.
