In 2008 poet and spoken word hip-hop artist, Scroobius Pip set out on a project to publish a collection of his poems drawn by artists he'd recruited from his MySpace page. The brief was simple, each artist has to include every word of the lyrics. With a selection of new artwork inspired by street art, graffiti, tattoos and crime noir movies, this unique visual collection brings a whole new dimension to Scroobius Pip's singular lyrical stylings... Poetry in (e)Motion: The Illustrated Words of Scroobius Pip is only really going to appeal to fans of Scroobius Pip's work. The illustrations here range from good to average - there's nothing that really jumps out and grabs you. Likewise, the poetry is fairly average. I think the biggest problem with this collection is that you're either going to love or hate it all. This is really a collection for Pip fans only - mainly because this seems a little too self indulgent a project. This really wasn't my cup of tea, but I can see how if you're into Pip's work then you'd get something from it. 4 Darren Rea |
