Across thousands of worlds, the dead have risen. These Black Lanterns, heroes and villains recruited from beyond the grave, have one purpose: extinguish all light - and life - in the universe. Hal Jordan has overcome death once before. As the greatest Green Lantern to ever wield the emerald ring, it is Hal's unquestionable duty to lead the living against this overwhelming army of the dead... Originally published in comic book form issues #0-8 of Blackest Night and Blackest Night Director's Cut issue #1, Green Lantern: Blackest Night and revolves around Death resurrecting dead superheroes in a bid to purge emotion, as well as life, from the universe. While Blackest Night consumes Earth's heroes, the seven corps empowered by the emotional spectrum must end their war against each other - or bear witness to the end of all creation. Each of these wildly different corps - fuelled by rage, avarice, fear, will, hope, compassion and love - must unite against the Black Lanterns Throughout the decades, death has plagued the DC Universe and taken the lives of heroes and villains alike. But to what end? As the war between different coloured Lantern Corps rages on, the prophecy of the Blackest Night descends. Now it's up to Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps to lead DC's champions in the battle to save the Universe from an army of undead Black Lanterns made up of the fallen Green Lanterns and DC's deceased heroes and villains. An interesting, and extremely deep collection that explores emotion as it's central theme. Not just one for Green Lantern fans - but one for all comic book lovers who want something a little more challenging. 8 Nick Smithson |
