The dark underworld of espionage and crime is lit up by the fatal charms of the gorgeous Modesty Blaise - high priestess of pulp crime and goddess of cult thrillers. An assassination attempt on Lord Coburn at a cricket match leaves Modesty and Willie stumped in Sweet Caroline; the kidnap of one of Willie's circus elephants leads to an icy confrontation in Return of the Mammoth; Salamander Four returns to wreak havoc in Plato's Republic; and in The Sword of the Bruce, a young couple's inheritance hangs in the balance when mobsters target them for exploitation - until Modesty decides to take charge of the situation... Sweet Caroline collects together the Modesty Blaise stories Sweet Caroline, The Return of the Mammoth, Plato's Republic and Sword of the Bruce. The stories were originally published in comic strip form between 1984 and 1985. It's another interesting collection of spy thrills and spills which will delight fans of Modesty Blaise. The artwork is up to the strips usual standard and the writing is as tight and engaging as ever. I'm really preaching to the converted. No one is likely to pick this up if they don't know what to expect. Blaise fans will already have preordered this months ago. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online |
