Known largely as Superchumbo, this is just one side to Tom Stephan, the New York born and London based multi talented artist.
A window into his current DJ set and his production and remix cache is his new album, Nervous Nitelife. Featuring names such as Diplo, Major Lazer and Larry Tee combined with Stephan's own original productions which comes at you with some force.
Shockwaves go through you right from the first track, 'Get Up (Everybody) (Starkillers Mix)' which leaves you on a jumping high and ready for the rest of the album.
'Underground Sound' mixes smoothly with the previous track, so much so it's not even noticeable, the beat keeps going solidly and so did my feet.
Bringing some cultural and cool percussion beats mixed with the seductive tones of ravey-electro is 'African Forest (original mix)'. I like this track, it's funky and real.
'Back to Basic' does what it says, takes the track back to some old skool house basics. It's pure genius and keeps the beat and feel going strong.
Just for the fun factor, I love the 'Polkadots' track, the lyrics cracked me up the first time I heard it, sung in a deep masculine voice are the words: 'We should all wear polka dots'. Apart from this little burst, the song is a little too repetitive for my liking.
'Keep It Going Louder' and 'Let's Make Nasty' both have strong danceable mixes with some ghoulish vocals and hardcore beats to keep you going all night.
The last four tracks, rather than winding the album down seem to in fact crank it even higher! 'Born to Bounce', 'Get Up', 'Turn That Sh*t Up' and 'What You Need' all leave you on a high and wanting more.
This is a hyped up, go getting album, which is certainly needed to get the blood pumping and raise you in the mood for a night of non stop dancing.
