For those not aware, there were two versions of Legend (1985) released theatrically. For Europe Jerry Goldsmith composed the score, while in the original American theatrical release Tangerine Dream provided a very different approach to the music. The original Tangerine Dream soundtrack is hard to track down these days and so BuySoundtrax Records employed Brandon K. Verrett to reissue the score as close to the original as possible, while allowing him to modernise it slightly...

I have to admit that I haven't heard the original score, but apparently this reworking has gone for a more orchestral feel to the tracks in order to make it more accessible and not sound so dated. In addition, the tempo for some of the tracks has been altered slightly.

I quite enjoyed this score. At times it's quirky and at other times it delivers some beautiful tracks ('The Dance' being the most impressive).

The album lasts for 1 hr, 13 min, 18 sec and is spread over 20 tracks. For those that own the original release, it's well worth picking this new version up so that you can compare the changes. Of course, die hard fans will probably be up in arms that even one note has been changed, but personally I like the fact that BuySoundtrax Records is spending time and money to bring us something that little bit different.
