The Heroes - Tribute to a Tribe

Release Date: 09 September 2013

This is the story of how A Tribe Called Quest inspired two Mozambican artists, the rapper Simba and producer and musician Milton Gulli to make a difference musically, to not fear being different, to not fear self expression. This tribute is to thank ATCQ for being the first to take these steps, and to make it easier for those who followed. This album also serves as a message to ATCQ, urging them to get past their differences and remember their roots as a hip hop band. The Heroes - A Tribute To A Tribe Called Quest is a voyage, from the '90s when ATCQ was at its peak, to now, taking the listener on an evolutionary tour of hip hop to Southern Africa...

The Heroes - A Tribute To A Tribe Called Quest is a labour of love; a shout out to ATCQ, who inspired and moved Simba and Milton Gulli and gave them the inspiration to follow in their footsteps.

This is a hip hop album that is way more than just a collection of songs - there's an underlying story here and a natural flow and progression to the tracks. We start of with 'Intro' which beautifully introduces us to the world of Simba and Gulli.

'Can I Kick It (Chuta)' is catchy; 'Electric Relaxation' has a laid back vibe; 'Bonita Applebum' will at the very least have you bopping your head. This is a catchy track with annoyingly 'can't get it out of your head' catchy lyrics; and 'We've Got The Jazz' has, unsurprisingly, a jazz base with which a hip hop track is built upon.

This is an interesting album that is well worth adding to your collection - especially if you're a hip hop fan looking for something a little different.
