Lakeshore Records release Rupert Gregson-Williams's score for Postman Pat: The Movie. The film tells the story of Pat, everyone’s favourite postman, coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and his family and friends. What happens when kindness meets selfishness? When local fame meets Global notoriety? Will a nice cup of tea be kicked aside by a Frappacapacino? Pat is set to find out as he falls for the age-old temptation of the grass being greener...

Rupert Gregson-Williams's score for Postman Pat: The Movie was a pleasant surprise. It's amazing how many times scores for child's movies actually contains all the ingredients to make for a beautiful listening experience for adults. Over the course of this score's 19 tracks (38 min, 38 sec) there are "moments", rather than themes, that make it of interest to soundtrack fans.

Gregson-Williams manages to pay homage to so many of the cinematic greats, without actually as far as to make it obvious. Every now and then you'll catch the spirit of John Barry; James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith. But this is all Gregson-Williams. It's an original score that is so much better; so much more enjoyable than you'll be expecting.

Highlights include 'Pat Nailed It'; the ending of 'SDS Corporate Office'; 'Sara Needs To Talk'; 'Greendale Into Action'; 'Megalomaniac' and 'Pat Alone' (both of which house this score's most beautiful theme - a track reminiscent of John Barry at his finest); and 'Sara Arrives'.

If I had one complaint, it's that the tracks don't appear to be in any natural order. The last track just sort of ends in mid flow... For lovers of beautiful scores, you may well be surprised by Postman Pat: The Movie.
