Always Tomorrow

Artist: Wild Smiles
Label: Sunday Best Recordings
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 27 October 2014

Hailing from Winchester, Wild Smiles's 2013 7”, 'Sweet Sixteen/Tangled Hair', took in elements of Beach Boys surf pop, Velvet Underground drones, Wall Of Sound beats, Jesus & Mary Chain low-fi garage clatter and Nirvana filth. A dazzling stew of sound, it was simultaneously classic, timely and forward thinking – it seemed amazing no one had smashed such sprawling decades of music together before.

Always Tomorrow builds very much on this impressive start. The album is retro, yet current; timeless, yet of the here and now. The stripped back, bare bones recording helps to give the tracks a raw feel to them.

Personal favourite track has to be 'Never Wanted This'. Not only does it have an interesting message at its core, but it also reminded me in style of The Pixies.

The album contains 11 songs (31 min, 07 sec) of music that you'll either fall in love with, or not really get.
