You were captured. Look what they’ve done to you… The jailer is the key, kill him and you’ll be free. Fight your way through this ultra-responsive, fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting game. Fight your way free in this frenzied all-boss fighter, and discover what’s waiting behind the last gate...

Review imageFuri is a game with a retro feel to it. Old school Japanese style graphics, mixed with a ton of nostalgic retro gameplay make this an essential purchase for fans of this niche genre.

Those that don't have a fond attachment to Japanese style gaming may find the experience a little disorienting, confusing and rather weak. Likewise, if you like to be handheld through the levels, then the level of difficulty here - which is unforgiving - may annoy you a little too quickly.

Furi is all about the tension of one-on-one fights against deadly adversaries. It’s an intense, ultra-responsive game with a unique mix of fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting. Each of the formidable guardians - designed by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki - has their own unique combat style that requires focus and skill to defeat.

Review imageThe controls won't take long to master: you can slash with your sword, shoot with your gun, dodge and parry. You can also charge the slash attack, the gun shot and the dodge.

This is unlike other boss battle style games in that you're given a hint how to defeat them and the rest is up to you. The challenge comes with the different styles between the guardians - each one will take time to defeat.

It's not a game for everyone, but if you're a fan of this style of combat game you'll get a blast out of Furi.
