Nothing is Anywhere

Artist: D Generation
Label: Bastard Basement Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 29 July 2016

D Generation release their first album in 17 years. Widely regarded as one of the most important and unsung rock 'n' roll bands of the past 25 years, and having been signed to EMI and Columbia, touring with the Ramones (on their farewell tour) and KISS (on their reunion tour) as well as playing alongside the likes of Guns and Roses, Green Day, The Misfits, The Offspring, Social Distortion and more. Nothing is Anywhere is released through Bastard Basement Records...

D Generation may or may not be familiar to you. While I was a fan of the rock genre in the '80s and '90s I never really became a fan of theirs - a fact I'm now regretting after hearing their new album. It's not that I didn't like their output, just that I wasn't really all that aware of it.

The New York based group originally formed in 1991, released three albums and then went their separate ways in 1999. Since then they reformed in 2011 for a tour and again this year (2016).

While I thoroughly enjoyed their sound - they neatly merge the genre's of glam rock, punk rock and garage rock with effortless ease - I couldn't help feeling the album sounded a little dated.

The LP contains 13 tracks (43 min, 20 sec) and in places I was reminded of Cheap Trick ('Mercy of the Rain' and 'Tomorrow' being the most notable tracks).

Was it worth waiting 17 years? Hell, yes! For fans of the genre this will be an essential purchase.
