Sundown Chronicles

Artist: Maximilien Mathevon
Label: Plaza Mayor Company
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 02 December 2016

Since 2002, Maximilien Mathevon has composed the original soundtrack of numerous documentaries for French TV channels (CANAL+, ARTE, M6, France Televisions). In 2002 and 2003 he created new musical accompaniments for 12 famous silent movies as they were reissued in France on DVD (20,000 Leagues Under the Seas, Outside the Law, Way Down East). Mathevon has also composed several Electronic / New Age albums, blending ethnic sonorities, classical and electro styles...

Following on from Maximilien Mathevon's 2016 releases Outside and Wild, comes Sundown Chronicles, an impressive retro electronic score.

If I were being a lazy journalist, I'd have to say that listening to Sundown Chronicles was like listening to a cross between Vangelis's score for Blade Runner and a Jean-Michel Jarre album from the '80s. If neither of these are you're idea of a good time, then you might not enjoy the musical treat on offer.

The album contains 11 tracks (44 min, 44 sec) and while I didn't quite bond with it as much as I did his previous releases, this is still a fine album.
