Varèse Sarabande release The Big Sick soundtrack which features original music composed by Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko). The album also includes the end title track 'My Love' by The Bird and The Bee. The movie is based on the real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, and tells the story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail, who connects with grad student Emily after one of his standup sets. However, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, Beth and Terry who he's never met, while dealing with the emotional tug-of-war between his family and his heart...

Given the subject matter of the movie, Michael Andrews pulls off an incredible and intricate score. However, there are a few too many music cues and the repetition of a handful of the film's limited themes. That said, it's a sweet, uplifting collection of tracks.

The album contains 13 tracks (25 min, 48 sec) and when you strip out the filler material it's rather an interesting score. Personal highlights include 'Can't Lose My Family'; and 'Kumail Terry and Beth'.

If sweet, fluffy scores are your thing then you'll probably enjoy what Andrews's delivers here.
