Varèse Sarabande releases Jeff Beal's original score for The Putin Interviews. Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone was granted unprecedented access to Russian president Vladimir Putin during more than a dozen interviews over two years, with no topic off-limits. This remarkable four-part documentary series provides intimate insight into Putin's personal and professional lives, from his childhood under communism, to his rise to power, his relations with four U.S. presidents, and his surprising takes on U.S.-Russian relations today. Witness the most detailed portrait of Putin ever granted to a Western interviewer...

Over the month I've been listening to this score there are two tracks that always make me stop what I'm doing and take notice. 'Second Chechen War' and 'Special Forces Attack'. While these are by no means the only notable highlights over the course of the album's 34 tracks (1 hr, 18 min, 22 sec) they do stand out.

In his notes on working on this score, composer Jeff Beal commented that when he first watched footage of The Putin Interviews, he found that it was temped with his music from House of Cards.

There is a very distinct House of Cards flavour to the score, which to my mind is a good thing, as Beal's music there rarely disappoints. If you're a fan of Beal's music, especially House of Cards, you'll enjoy what he delivers here.
