I'm a Man

Artist: Whispertown
Label: Graveface Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 01 September 2017

LA-based Whispertown is the latest iteration of the unique vision of Morgan Meyn Nagler (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar). What was once The Whispertown 2000 has morphed into a less structured version of itself, with Nagler’s unmistakable vocals leading a revolving cast of musicians and artists...

I'm a Man is Nagler’s third full length release. After being diagnosed with a polyp on her vocal cord, and faced with the possibility of never singing again, Nagler discovered she is without a doubt a “lifer”, and married to song writing, for better and for worse. This album is a stripped back acoustic affair.

It took me a long time to get my head around this release. In fact, if I'm being honest, if it weren't for the fact I was reviewing it I probably wouldn't have listened to it more than once. That would have been a shame, because I would have missed out on some of the inner beauty of this release.

Nagler's effortless, almost hypnotic vocals are captivating... but, probably like Marmite, you're going to love them or hate them.

Of this album's 11 songs (31 min, 58 sec) personal highlights include 'There are no words'; and 'Big Fish'.
