Breaking Bad (2008 – 2013) became a seminal series, much like The Soprano’s (1999 – 2007) had. The show followed the adventures of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) a down on his luck chemistry teacher who discovers that he has lung cancer. Concerned about his family’s welfare he teams up with a former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to produce methamphetamine. But a life of crime can change a man and the mild-mannered White descends into a world of crime, transforming into Heisenberg, a ruthless drugs kingpin. Breaking Bad: All That’s Left to Know About Hustlers, Bunsen Burners and Heisenberg (2019. 372 pages) is another in a series of FAQ books which look at iconic shows. This one was written by Rich Weidman, who had previously contributed FAQ books on The Doors, Guns N’ Roses and The Beat Generation. The latest book demonstrates both the strength and weakness of the format. This format allows the author to go into minute detail regarding the show, its influences and the influences it paid forward. With this level of detail, the index becomes your friend, if your looking for anything specific, and in this way the book make for some very good reference material. Unless your looking for specifics the book works best by dipping in and out of it. On the other side of the coin, the overabundance of information can be a little overwhelming, reducing the book into too many pages of episode guides. The book is written with wit and in small sections remains entertaining. 7 Charles Packer Buy this item online
