Saxophonist and composer Josephine Davies's jazz trio Satori release their second album, In the Corners of Clouds, via Whirlwind Recordings. On this recording drummer James Maddren joins existing double bassist Dave Whiford to deliver eight original numbers... In the Corners of Clouds is Satori's second LP, following 2017's self-titled Satori. It's a well balanced collection of jazz tracks that are engaging and memorable. This is an album that fans of the genre will enjoy from the first play through. But the more you play it, the more layers you'll uncover as you discover Davies's rhythmic world. Whether you're a serious collector of jazz, or a novice who just likes to dabble on occasion, there's enough quality material to make it instantly accessible to all. Of course, if you can't abide jazz, then there's little here to help you leap onboard. It's a solid and enjoyable outing for the genre, and while it doesn't deliver anything new or especially exciting, it is still remarkably engaging. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
