Broadway Records release the original London cast recording of Mythic, a new pop/rock musical comedy by Marcus Stevens and Oran Eldor. The musical turns the ancient Greek story of Persephone on its side, with the gods as chart-topping rock. At the Dawn… The universe was one big party for ancient gods known as the Titans… but not for long. Their own rebellious children overthrew them, claiming the world for their own, and calling themselves the Olympians... Mythic is an engaging and uplifting pop/rock musical which puts a new spin on an ancient Greek story. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. After being abducted, she married Hades, the god of the underworld, becoming the queen of the underworld. The musical sees Persephone and Hades accidentally entering the underworld after Aphrodite casts a love spell on them at an all-gods party. Persephone's subsequent journey and experiences see the young woman mature and discover that there is good in even the darkest of places. If you strip it down, to its bare bones it's a lot like a modern reworking of Romeo & Juliet, set in ancient Greece. The story is not overly important to enjoy this musical, but it adds a nice background to the songs. The album contains 20 songs (57 min, 23 sec) and comedy is an important element in the reworking of the story. There are so many enjoyable and instantly memorable songs on this album that it's hard to fathom where to start singing its praises. If you want a strong, typical musical number then you'll enjoy 'Persephone in Bloom'. If you're after comedy, then 'Ew!", will appease you. Power ballad? Then check out 'Look to the Sky' and 'Irreversible'... or if you want a comedy power ballad... then 'You'd be Surprised' will send a shiver down your spine. A memorable and entertaining collection of strong musical numbers. 9 Daisy May Buy this item online
