Reunion Records release the original score for the movie Overcomer. The film follows the story of high school basketball coach John Harrison who reluctantly agrees to coach cross-country. His outlook soon changes when he meets Hannah Scott, a runner who pushes herself to the limit for the biggest race of her life... Overcomer is blessed with having two album releases. There's a various artists soundtrack (featuring some of Paul Mills's score as well as a number of pop songs) and then there's this release, containing 37 tracks (1 hr, 19 min, 17 sec) of Mills's score. Mills's music worked well, on the soundtrack release, to round out that album. But for those that want more, this score doesn't disappoint. Mills offers us a huge collection of soft, sweet, melancholic themes. While there are a few pieces that weave their way through the album, he does a masterful job of presenting them in such a way that you never get tired of them, or feel that he's using them as a crutch to rest the entire score on. For Overcomer, Mills takes the listener on an emotional journey, producing themes that not only get under your skin, but also tug at the heart strings. From time to time I couldn't help but be reminded of Stephen Barton's score for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) - most notably in tracks like 'The Last Race'. This is an impressive and diverse score that doesn't disappoint, taking the listener on an emotional roller coaster. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
