The game is designed to make it feel as though you're really at the table.

For fans of poker, Poker Club brings plenty to the table. I'm not a huge poker player (or gambler for that matter) so I enlisted two good friends. One who is a poker nut and the other has never played it, but was eager to learn.

There are so many ways to play, but the only real tutorial was a text based one which raised more questions than it answered. This really isn't a game for those looking to learn the game from scratch - unless you're prepared to sit and read a lot, scratch your head and then delve straight into a game. But with even a little bit of knowledge on how the game is played you'll soon be off to a flying start.

The great thing about the game is that it's not rigged for newcomers. It's been designed, in order to stop cheaters, to ensure each card is as random as if you were playing at a real flesh and blood table. Likewise the AI players are all equipped with their own particular skill level but you won't find the game favouring the newcomer in order to ease them into the game.

The design is set up to make it look and feel as though you're really there at the table. The developers have gone all out to ensure that this is as realistic an experience as possible. Probably the only way to have improved on this would have been if they'd offered a VR mode.

The best place to start is the Poker Club Championship (PCC) Tour. This features lots of different tournaments and working your way through them will help you master the game.

You can also play your own customised games inviting friends and/or opening up to all online players. You can set up a private club, or join an existing one for exclusive tournaments and other benefits. There are several different locations to play in, but to be fair once you start a game you're not really paying much attention to your surroundings.

For £20 you can't really grumble about anything. Obviously if you're not a fan of poker... well, you'd be a bit of an idiot to buy this. But for those who love the game this is an essential addition to your game's library.
