Sogni

Artist: Primo!
Label: Upset the Rhythm
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 17 April 2020

Primo! release their second full length album, Sogni, via Upset The Rhythm. Sogni is the follow up to 2018’s Amici...

I didn't really go a bundle on Primo!'s new album. The band sounds as though they haven't been together long and that before this none of them had touched an instrument or sung. Exhibit A: 'Machine' is constructed of guitar and drum parts that you could probably pick up really quickly even if you had no previous musical experience. Likewise, the vocals are raw and a little off kilter.

There's promise here... but it all feels so DIY - and poor DIY at that. There isn't even any passion or drive that would make me overlook the lack of any polish. It just feels like the entire album process has been rushed with the bare minimum of effort put in. No memorable lyrics or catch tunes. Very simple tunes and bored sounding vocals end up just feeling a bit of a drag.

While it's designed to feel raw and edgy, to me it just sounded poorly executed and really bland. They're probably amazing live.
