The Tiny Troopers are back in Global Ops

We reviewed the original Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops on PS4 (2014) and Xbox One (2016) on its original release. Almost ten years on and the inevitable sequel is here... and it's even more fun and addictive than the original.

The game is fairly easy to get to grips with, but difficult to master. The controls are just as fiddly as they were in the first outing - aiming that grenade/rocket launcher will still occasionally see you missing the target because the designated firing area has a habit of suddenly moving to the nearest target a split second before you hit the fire button.

The game is fairly easy to get to grips with, but difficult to master

You start the game with one soldier under your command, or none if you get the poor sap killed in action and forget to recruit a new squad member. After each successful mission is completed you can level up various elements of your squad, slowly increasing your team to four members.

Whilst your main character never dies all other team members can. And this is a real pain when you've leveled them up significantly. The trick is to keep replaying old levels until you've leveled up your squad enough to breeze through the next level.

The environments change enough to keep you coming back for more

Unlock new weapons (although I must admit I found the pistol you start with to be the most effective) and abilities to help you take out the enemy and complete objectives successfully.

The game looks great and the missions and environments change enough to keep you coming back for more. While it's fun to play the missions alone, you can also play co-op with friends or go online and squad up with other gamers.

I had a blast with Tiny Troopers: Global Ops. It's fun, frantic and challenging.
