From the trailblazing 1940s movie serials that first put Batman and Superman on the silver screen to the Caped Crusader's swinging 1960s escapades and the iconic 1970s Superman to the state-of-the-art 21st century reinventions of the Dark Knight, the Man of Steel, and Wonder Woman, this book is an indispensable guided tour of DC cinema history. See how DC's characters, locations, costumes, and weapons have been adapted from page to screen and evolved over the decades. Witness some of the world's finest actors, such as Academy-Award winners Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Christian Bale, Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, Viola Davis, and others transform into the Super Heroes, Super-Villains, and supporting cast for their times. Go behind the scenes and discover little known facts while poring over stunning movie stills, posters, storyboards, and designs...

Since the birth of the Internet I'm constantly surprised to see books like this still being published. There's very little included here that can't be unearthed for free by a quick Internet search. This is more a coffee book edition that looks good in your bookshelf and is fun to pick up and dip in and out of occasionally. I mean, if you want to know more about a certain movie there are thousands of official and well curated fan pages that garner much deeper dives. But this book will whet your appetite and can be used as a jumping off point to kick start your own research on your favourite DC movie/s and character/s.

Whilst there's nothing here that will really shock or surprise the true DC fan, there are plenty of little nuggets tucked away for the casual fan. Likewise, there's very little in the way of original behind the scenes photography. It's mainly comprised of well used production stills that you'll probably have seen used elsewhere.

It's more a purchase for that superhero fan in your life than it is the sort of book you buy yourself. Having said that, it's still a lovingly curated book.
