Sonic Wings: Reunion is a retro arcade scrolling wave shooter

Sonic Wings: Reunion is a retro arcade scrolling wave shooter that sees you take to the skies in a number of planes.

£25 is a quite a big ask, especially when there is nothing original here. The disc edition is retailing for just under £50, which is surely a joke. My biggest gripe is that the playing arena only constitutes 1/3 of the screen area. This means that the chaos during the battles is compounded by the fact that everything is smaller than it should be.

The busy screens are so chaotic that it's hard to dodge the enemies attacks, even on easy mode. After a fairly short period of time you feel like you're constantly having to refocus your concentration as you zone out.

The game's scenario changes depending on the combination of characters. There are eight initial characters, with hidden characters that can be unlocked. There are eight stages (including bonus stages) in which players fight in cities and locations in the modern world.

It's bland, unoriginal and not overly much fun if you play for any length of time. One for hardcore retro gamers only.
