Maximilien Mathevon releases Pictures, his third electronic music album this year [2025 - following on from Totem and Patchwork], through Plaza Mayor Company Limited.

I always look forward to hearing a new project from Mathevon. Whilst his soundtracks are always a joyous treat, it's his own compositions that I get most excited about. Unfettered by the constraints of composing music for someone else's project, through these original works we get to see the composer's heart and soul.

The album consists of 7 tracks (42 min, 50 sec) and from track to track the composer constantly reinvents himself and his unique style. There are elements of classic Jean-Michel Jarre in tracks like 'Pictures 2', which is busy and steeped in retro electronic music. Whereas 'Pictures 3' is more soft and a lot slower. 'Pictures 4' has a Vangelis-esque ring to it. It has a memorable, strong theme at its core which slowly builds.

Once again Mathevon delivers an engaging, timeless collection of electronic themes which stay with you long after the last note has faded. I really enjoy getting to know the composer more through these interesting and varied compositions.
