The Consequence of Love contains 10 songs (30 min, 56 sec) which mixes country and folk seamlessly. Straight off the bat Downey's music is instantly accessible, catchy and memorable.

The album opens with the upbeat 'Good In Goodbye', which showcases the country/folk mix and prepares us for what is to come. For me, the standout track was 'Lost in Blue', with its earworm chorus. Elsewhere, 'Angel' and 'Because' reminded me very much of the style of Mary Black's folk music.

For a debut album I was impressed by the diversity on display. There's some seriously catchy set pieces here - 'Heart of Mine', for example - which feel like the work of an artist who has been honing their craft for years.

An impressive debut from Downey, who has a beautiful voice and knows how to hook people from the start.
