| For over 30 years, Stan Winston and his team of artists and
technicians have been creating characters, creatures and monsters
for the silver screen, from The Terminator and the
extraterrestrial monstrosities of Aliens and Predator
to the amazing dinosaurs of Jurassic Park and the fanciful
character of Edward Scissorhands. Now, at last, he's opening
up the Stan Winston Studios to collaborate on the first-ever
book to reveal all the behind-the-scenes secrets of his groundbreaking
and hugely influential artistry and effects work. Featuring
an extensive array of sketches, production art, and photographs
straight from the studio archives, this is the book his fans
                    have been waiting for...
 The
                    Winston Effect is
one of those books that everyone will be able to enjoy on
one level or another. For the casual movie fan it's interesting
to flick through and discover what creatures Stan Winston
and his team have helped to bring to life on the big screen.
For more hard-core fans, as well as those thinking about a
career in the movie industry, this is an indispensable insight
into one of the most successful effects studios on the planet. This
collection kicks off with a look at the early years of Winston's
career and then moves on to his more recent work. It's interesting
to see the development of some of his techniques as they evolve
                    from project to project. You
can pick this book up and flick through it, stopping at something
that catches your eye (almost every page will do that), or
you can read it from cover to cover. Either way, this is a
book that is packed to bursting with delicious eye candy,
as well as a carefully constructed narrative that looks deep
into the magical world in which Winston works. There
are particularly large sections on well known areas of Winston's
work including creating dinosaurs (most notably for the Jurassic
Park series of movies), robots and his work on Alien/Predator/Terminator.
A lot of his most noteworthy films are examined individually
                    - generally receiving between a page and several pages depending
on the level of complexity of Winston's work. While
£34 might sound like a lot of money to spend on a book,
it works out at roughly 10p a page. I doubt you'll find a
better value for money book anywhere on the planet. Treat
yourself. This is a book that you'll cherish for a long time
                    to come.
