Wings
of Power II includes three brand new WWII fighter aircraft
built using Absolute Realism Technology: these are the legendary

Wings
of Power II is the latest add-on for Microsoft Flight
Simulator 2004. To
be honest, I have to admit that I thought that £20 was
a little expensive when you consider that you can download
skins for most of these aircraft for free on several online
sites. Okay, they are not these exact models, but are very
similar and every bit as impressive as these versions are.
The only problem with downloading the online versions is that
it can be a bit of a nightmare installing everything in the
right folders on your hard drive.
Sad
that I am, I've been looking to get hold of a Supermarine
Spitfire model for sometime (I've only managed to find other
versions of the Spitfire on freeware sites and none of them
are like the version that I was after - the Supermarine Spitfire.
But, as I mentioned before, if you are not too picky you can
pick up very good versions online.
Whether
the sound and handling is authentic is anyone's guess. Only
if you've flown a real version will you know that. But, apparently,
all the planes included have been built from actual aircraft
flight tests and the original pilot's manual.
Other
things worthy of note include authentic power characteristics
of the supercharged and turbocharged piston engines; realistic
cruise performance under various conditions with Precision
Fuel Management; Absolute Realism even delivers authentic
"distance-to-altitude" performance under various power settings;
gorgeously constructed aircraft, inside and out, down to the
last rivet; professionally recorded and mastered authentic
audio; latest generation engine sound including realistic
prop effects; stall buffet, canopy, ground roll, flaps, gyro
and authentic cockpit wind; and authentic drop tank release
actually drops both fuel and weight.
This
pack also comes with several posters that give more detailed
information on the specs for each plane as well as illustrations.
If
you are looking for a handful of WWII fighters to add to your
Flight Sim catalogue then these are pretty impressive
if you you don't want to hunt around for fan-made versions
for free from Microsoft approved sites.
