RACE
is
officially endorsed by the World Touring Car Championship
(WTCC) and is based on the WTCC 2006 season, featuring more
than 30 different cars on 10 different tracks from all over
the world. Also including WTCC 87 where historic touring cars
gives a true blast from the past, featuring two classic race
car modes from the '80s. And Mini Challenge Cup with instant
action featuring 30 different Mini Cooper S's.
For
fans of realistic driving games RACE could well be
a bit of a disappointment. Firstly the cars are nowhere near
as detailed as they could have been (both inside and out).
It also takes an evolutionary step backwards as far as gameplay
is concerned.
The
cars are incredibly simple to control and there's none of
the excitement that comes with some of the more hard-core
racing simulators. Not only that but, being WTCC, there are
very few rear wheel drive cars for you to choose from. This
is fine if you prefer front wheel drive vehicles, but if you
don't you could find yourself getting increasingly frustrated
with the handling of some of the cars.
While
this all sounds a little negative, to be honest I did enjoy
this game a little more than maybe I should have. There are
some nice additions - for starters there are several real
tracks that you won't have played anywhere else. And for a
fun - pick up the controller and belt around the course -
offering, this isn't half bad.
