Lyra and Will find themselves facing great perils. But there are old friends that come to their aid, not least Iorek Byrnison, the armoured bear, and the scientist, Dr Mary Malone. There are new allies: the Galvespians, hand-high dragonfly riders with poison spurs, and the mulefa, strange wheeled creatures with the power to see Dust. And there are new dangers, including a journey to the worst world of all - a journey that exerts a terrible cost on both children...

This twelve CD collection of Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass is an unabridged audio presentation of the final book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. This collection expands the BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation, which is also available separately as a 2-disc abridged collection, by including additional narration that fleshes out the story fully, as in the original book.

The Amber Spyglass sees Lyra Silvertongue and Will Parry facing great perils. They have become separated from each other, and their friends. Can they complete their mysterious quest before it is too late?

The great armoured bear lorek Byrnison reappears, as does Dr Mary Malone, creator of the amber spyglass. Then there are the tiny dragonfly-riding Gallivespians, and the wheel-borne Mulefa with their ability to see the mysterious substance Dust.

As childhood slips away from them, Lyra and Will face new dangers - including the daemon-destroying Spectres and a journey into the world of the dead. The great rebellion against the dark powers that hold Lyra's world in thrall is nearing its climax

The Amber Spyglass has an all-star cast including Terence Stamp, Ray Fearon, Emma Fielding and Philip Madoc, with a linking narration by the author. While the 2-disc collection is incredibly well realised (and a must for all fans of the trilogy), this unabridged collection is even more engaging. The hours will fly by, and once you've listened to it once you'll be itching to buy the other two further collections.

While £60 may seem a lot to spend (and if you are planning on buying all three unabridged tales the full collection will set you back a tidy £146) it does represent thirteen hours of quality entertainment which vividly brings to life Pullman's story. Fans of the book will find that this is a must buy.
