Officers Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna were minding their own
business aboard a familiar, princess-harbouring freighter
when they suddenly found themselves under siege. Now under
attack by the Empire, they will choose life over a noble death
and "borrow" the armour off a pair of deceased stormtroopers.
Their new disguises might get them off the freighter alive,
but they'll also lead Tag and Bink on an adventure neither
could have predicted...
Tag
& Bink Were Here takes
key moments from the original trilogy of Star Wars
movies and explains that some of the most important events
in the Star Wars Universe were the result of two ordinary
rebel fighters who were just trying to avoid trouble.
For
example, the Tie-Fighter that Han Solo follows towards the
Death Star was actually piloted by Tag, who is trying to escape
from the Death Star. A confusion over the message Bink (in
another Tie Fighter) gives him, results in Tag heading back
to the Death Star with the Millennium Falcon in hot
pursuit. How did Obi-Wan Kenobi manage to lower the force
field when it was guarded by two stormtroopers? Well, those
two Troopers were Tag & Bink. And who shot C3P0 to bits
in Bespin? Well, that too was our hapless heroes. Also, watch
out for the inclusion of a long running in-gag amongst Star
Wars fans - the stormtrooper who bangs his head in A
New Hope.
There
are numerous examples like this as the two make their way
through the original trilogy. There's a great running story
line with Lando that explains why he owes Tag a huge favour.
The Boba Fett story arc is a little tedious and I thought
would have played better as a quick gag instead of an ongoing
story. However, as Boba keeps popping up in the movies, it
does make sense to have him chasing Tag and Bink.
The
final story focusses on the duo's early beginnings as potential
Jedi Knights in training. While this is an entertaining and
very funny tale, it doesn't feature pivotal events from the
Star Wars Universe. Okay, it does feature the two getting
Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala together, but nothing more
really.
Without
a doubt the funniest Star Wars graphic novel you're
ever likely to read. If you a fan of the original trilogy
then you'll love this collection.
