A lot can happen in a year. Not only has Selina Kyle just
given birth to a baby girl, she's also taken on a different
identity and given up her life as a costumed adventurer. But
if that's the case, who's the person fighting criminals dressed
as Catwoman...?
The
Replacements sees
Selina Kyle return to Gotham City a proud mum. She's left
the streets in the capable hands of her confidante, aide and
protégé Holly Robinson. Kyle has put her old life behind her
and instead prepares to start afresh as a good mother. However,
things don't go as expected and it's not long before Kyle
is forced to return to the streets. And with a number of villains
trying to exact their revenge on her, it won't be long before
someone works out who Catwoman really is.
This
collection takes place after the death of Black Mask. Kyle
is strongly suspected of killing him, but no one is totally
sure except Kyle herself.
I
did find the notion that Kyle would spend ages arranging a
new identity for herself and then finally chose the name of
a character who turns into a cat in an obscure movie rather
ludicrous. Surely she knows that villains are a clever lot
and she must have suspected that Film Freak may happen to
recognise the name of Irena Dubrovna from the movie Cat
People - which he does. It's a little like someone secretly
opening a chocolate factory and calling themselves Willy Wonka
and thinking that no one will suspect that he owns the factory.
Also
I can see a problem with DC Universe stories in the future.
Whenever there is a problem, and no one else can help - and
if you can find her - maybe everyone should hire Zatanna to
clear up those little memory problems you are having.
Apart
from these very slight nit-picks, this is another top cat
tale. Catwoman fans will find this the purrfect collection
[You're fired! - Ed].
