Now that Keiichi and the Goddess in his life are the hot item
on campus, they find themselves constantly putting out fires
- mostly set by Keiichi's buddies in the N.I.T. Motor Club,
who gently requisition his monthly living budget, make him
test-ride a monster funnybike, and toss him on a beach retreat.
After all this, Keiichi just wants to relax and watch some
home video... expect this video (literally) introduces a second
goddess into his life - Belldandy's "sophisticated"
older sister, Urd...
Volume
Two of Oh My Goddess sees more adventures for Kosuke
Fujishima's characters. While this was turned into an anime
show (Ah! My Goddess) Fujishima's original manga still
remains one of my favourite collections.
All
it took was one wrong number - now struggling student Keiichi
Morisato has one more problem in his life: a goddess who has
promised to stay with him... forever. With the N.I.T. Motorclub
shaking Keiichi down everyday for change and Megumi eating
the young couple out of house and home, it's time to get out
there and earn some money.
Yes,
Keiichi is skint, and desperate to ensure his sister has her
own place - that way he will be free to make his romantic
move on Belldandy. So he ends up accidentally agreeing to
act as a naked life model for an art class. Not really relishing
the fact that he has to strip off, Belldandy comes to the
rescue and performs a spell so that Keiichi doesn't really
have to strip off.
From
modelling in an all-female art class to test-driving the latest
breakneck dirt bikes... how far is Keiichi willing to go to
prove himself a man to Belldandy?
And,
when an adult video arrives unexpectedly in the mail, Keiichi's
in for much more than he realises. As he watches the video,
the beautiful woman on the TV screen suddenly leaps out into
Keiichi's room. This mysterious woman is in fact Belldandy's
older sister Urd, who has come to earth to sort things out
- the System Force has inexplicably stopped working.
This
collection also sees Keiichi so desperate to win the heart
of Belldandy that he buys her a ring for way more money than
he can afford. The result sees him taking odd jobs, including
dressing as Game Rabbit (a strange cross between a rabbit
and a tortoise) in a museum; doing some heavy labouring in
a quarry and working with some very expensive software in
an office. All of which he manages to mess up in some way.
This
second volume finally has all the main characters in place
so that Fujishima can now concentrate more on the comedic
storylines, rather than introducing the characters - not that
those introductions were handled clumsily, it's just that
now the characters can settle down while the amusing storylines
take over.
If
you've never read a manga before, then this series will have
you hooked. And if you are a serious manga fan then you will
already have ordered this.
