For the first time in a generation, those opposed to the Empire
have a chance to reclaim the galactic capital Coruscant. Whether
this becomes the New Republic's finest hour or its darkest
defeat lies squarely on the shoulders of Wedge Antilles and
his team of ace X-Wing pilots - Rogue Squadron. Witness the
rise of the Empire's deadliest pilot Baron Fel, follow the
machinations of Imperial power-player Ysanne Isard, and discover
the fate of Interim-Emperor Sate Pestage as one of the most
epic sagas in Star Wars unfolds...
In
the aftermath of the Battle of Endor and the dissolution of
the Empire, a crack team of X-Wing pilots flies the missions
nobody else dares to attempt. Led by war hero Wedge Antilles,
Rogue Squadron are the best of the best.
Volume
Three in the Star Wars: Omnibus: X-Wing Rogue Squadron
collects together issues #12-35 of the comic series of
the same name. Stories include In the Empire's Service,
The Making of Baron Fel, Family Ties, Masquerade
and Mandatory Retirement.
The
writing is as strong as we've come to expect from this series
and the art work is incredibly detailed. The characters introduced
in this series are also well handled - there's no flat, two
dimensional characters here.
On
the subject of the art work, it reminded me a lot of some
of the intricate work that was produced during the '70s when
the Star Wars movie was originally released. The comic
book adaptation of A New Hope, while a little dated
now, was incredibly well illustrated - with more detail than
was really necessary for a series that was really aimed at
children. Anyone who remembers the excitement of reading those
collections will get the same experience from reading this
new series.
This
is one series that serious Star Wars fans need to add
to their collection.
