New York City mayor Mitchell Hundred faces his most difficult
challenge to date - handling the massive 2003 blackout. But
what secret connection does Mitchell have to this devastating
event...?

Down sees
mayor of New York City, Mitchell Hundred, struggling to clear
up the mess after his city is plunged into darkness thanks
to an electrical outage. He also discovers that his mother
has got herself a new boyfriend - one whom Hundred knows very
well - and that a lunatic is eager to contact him - claiming
to be from a parallel universe. But at least one thing is
going in his favour - Hundred's ability to hear the thoughts
of machines has vanished, and for the first time in a long
while Hundred's world is peaceful.
To
be honest the story doesn't move on that much really and the
events here seemed more like filling than meaty goodness.
The only real event, other than Hundred losing his powers,
is that a mysterious stranger turns up claiming to be from
another universe. This could be, in part, down to the fact
that this is a very slim volume. It's
a shame that this collection isn't a little larger. It felt
like everything was over way too soon.
This
collection also includes an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look
at the making of the series. This includes an introduction
by author Brian K. Vaughan as well as rough sketches, background
information, cover art and various other bits and pieces that
give the reader more of an understanding of the inner workings
of the series.
Another
interesting release in the series, although not nearly big
enough to feed the appetite of fans.
