When eight-year-old Kirstie brings home a strange egg from the Scottish shore, she never expects it to hatch. But the next day, Kirstie discovers a baby sea monster swimming in her bathtub. Part horse, part toad, part turtle and part crocodile, it’s the oddest-looking creature Kirstie’s family has ever seen. Only Kirstie’s grandfather knows what the beastie really is - a Water Horse...

The Water Horse is a children's tale written by Dick King-Smith. The story follows two young Scottish children, Kirstie and Angus MacMorrow, who discover a strange egg on the Scottish shore. Taking the egg home, it soon hatches in the family bathtub, and the children set about feeding the strange creature that emerges. But its not long before this creature, which appears to be unlike any other they've seen, starts to outgrow its new home.

They have no idea what the creature is until their grandfather, a retired sailor, sees it and tells them that they have found a baby kelpie - a Water Horse. As it continues to grow, they transfer it from the bathtub to the garden pond, but it just keeps growing and growing. Before long, it’s outgrown every loch in sight. Will they ever find a home that’s large enough for their Water Horse?

A magical retelling of the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, The Water Horse is a timeless tale that will delight children of all ages. The book has recently been made into a feature film, starring Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin and David Morrissey, and this CD will no doubt appeal to those that have seen the movie and would like to hear the original childrens' book that the film was based on.

This 2-disc CD collection is read by Nathaniel Parker, who does an admiral job of bringing the book to life.
