Cole is working late, and the sisters are having a girls' night in. So, on the spur of the moment, Phoebe accepts what seems like an innocent date with a friendly stranger. But good intentions are quickly misconstrued when Cole leaves work early to surprise Phoebe - and is stunned to find her sharing a drink with another man. Cole can't believe that Phoebe would betray him, and Phoebe can't believe Cole would even think she'd betray him. Their escalating argument quickly highlights some fundamental trust issues they each harbour. But soon they discover themselves trapped in the Underworld, at the centre of a lovelorn demon's plot to destroy the Power of Three. If Cole and Phoebe can't reconcile their suspicions and insecurities, there's more than their own relationship at risk!...

Truth and Consequences sounds rather dull from the synopsis, but it isn't as dire as it sounds. You could be forgiven for mistakenly believing this is going to be one of those teen-angst stories. And while to some extent it is, there is also a whole lot more spooky goings on working in the background - being a Charmed novel you wouldn't expect anything else, would you?

There is also a wicked sense of humour running through this story - I loved the way Cole was given a kazoo to summon his guide and the Ferryman of the dead has a great sense of humour too.

Cameron Dokey's style is sharp and amusing and I couldn't help thinking he/she was wasted here. Writing dialogue is probably one of the hardest writing skills to master, but Dokey writes as though it were second nature.

It also works as a stand alone novel - take away the familiar characters names and replace them with different ones and this could be any novel. So, if you are not a Charmed fan, this could be the book to get you hooked.
