Veto Skreemer is the most feared killer in Earth's futuristic
gangsterland. With the other gangs poised to topple his empire,
Skreemer has set in motion a plan that will change the world
for good...
It
is 10 years since
Skreemer was
first published and this reprint, in the wake of the events
of 11 September 2001, give the story a new twist. The future
events constantly refer back to the fall - an event not explained,
but one that changed the current state of the world order
and replaced prime ministers and presidents with gangster
warlords.
This
is one of those great graphic novels that needs to be read
again to appreciate its finer points. After reading it the
first time I was compelled to read it again and I know I'll
come back to it again and again in the future.
Peter
Milligan's script is cleverly weaved between different timelines
and Brett Ewins and Steve Dillon help breathe life into what
is a grisly work of art. There are more than a few scenes,
including Dutch's lucky(?) escape after a rat tries to bury
into his face, that the artists bring to life without being
too graphic.
I
fantastic graphic novel that tackles numerous issues including
religion, alcoholism, free will, predicting the future and
the futility of life and death.
One
of the most original and thought proving works I have read
for some time - a timeless classic.
