The
balance of power shifts again in the ongoing battle for Earth...
and Cybertron. The civil war between the Autobots and the
Decepticons rages on two fronts. On Earth, Optimus Prime must
face the twin threat of Megatron and Shockwave, as the former
and current Decepticon leaders make their respective power
plays. On Cybertron, Blaster and the Autobot resistance must
break the hold of current Decepticon overlord, Straxus. But
Staxus's megalomania cannot be contained by a few billion
light years of space... and Earth is squarely in his sights...
Cybertron
Redux
is not for the comic novice. Nor is it for anyone who still
laughs at The Beano (oh, actually having thought about
it there was a very funny Dennis the Menace strip last
week.) This will appeal to one of two markets: The 20-30 something
who remembers the toys, cartoons and comics from the 80s or
to a younger generation who wants a little more from their
reading material than naughty teenagers with water pistols
and stink bombs.
The
art work is dated, and the dialogue is corny in a few places,
but this collection is still very readable. Oldies out there
(me included I'm afraid) will have problems telling the good
guys from the bad (although thankfully they didn't resort
to having the good guys one colour and the bad guys another)
thanks to the fact that all robots look the same.
This
collection is just above average and certainly doesn't hold
up to the quality of today's more mature comics. But, for
a trip down memory lane this does the trick.
One
last thing. Is it me or is Robot Master the funniest threat
to the human race that has ever existed?
