Hailed
as one of the most influential writers in comics today, Alan
Moore is the man behind some of the most critically-acclaimed
titles. These include Watchmen,
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: The Killing Joke,
Swamp Thing
and The
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Now, collected for the first time, some of his hard to find
stories can be enjoyed anew...
This
collection includes stories revolving around the exploits
of superheroes including Superman, Batman and Green
Lantern.
If
you are not a huge fan of traditional comic books, then give
this a large berth. For there is very little in here that
will excite the current generation of comic readers. However,
if are huge fan of Sups and Batty, then some of the stories
here will certainly appeal to you.
I,
personally, have always thought that Moore was overrated as
a writer. While there is no disputing that The Dark Knight
Returns and The Killing Joke represent some of
the best examples of why the comic industry has such a wide
appeal, the majority of his work I have found to be rather
dull. I was never a huge fan of his Swamp Thing work,
nor his writing on the Tomorrow's Stories collections.
But,
taken at face value, this collection is fairly interesting
reading. Although, unlike the aforementioned Dark Knight
Returns, I doubt it is a graphic novel that I will be
revisiting in a hurry
Very
average.
