The
Sandman Presents: The Taller Tales is a bizarre cocktail
of stories from another realm. The collection kicks off with
the very funny On Her Majesty's Sleeping Service which
sees Merv Pumpkinhead called upon once again to help save
mankind. It also sees the man with a real pumpkin for a head
falling in love with a human. I loved the Epilogue (The
Pie Who Loved Me) which nicely rounds things off.
The
Danny Nod story included here sees the child assistant librarian
setting off into fairytale land to recover all the missing
books from the library. A nice touch here is that there are
different artists for each of the mythical lands that Danny
travels to.
But
possibly the greatest section is the Everything You Ever
Wanted to Know About Dreams... But Were Afraid to Ask.
This answers many questions like: What causes nightmares?,
Why are so many dreams sexual in nature?, and Why aren't you
supposed to wake a sleepwalker?
This
is a great collection that can be read in its entirety, or
dipped in and out of when you feel the need for a quick laugh.
