It is six years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The
new republic are struggling to wipe away the remnants of the
old evil empire. The champion of the new republic (Luke Skywalker)
is suffering from massive internal struggles over which side
of the force he truly lies upon...
Couple
this together with Leia being pregnant (twins), a clone of
the evil emperor palpatine and the fact that Han solo still
doesn't have a clue what this force thing is all about and
you end up with a pretty entertaining graphic novel.
Dark Empire itself was one of the first original Star
Wars stories to come about (this being its third edition)
and it certainly is one of the better ones. The story never
really gets boring and the artwork, whilst not fantastic,
is good at setting the scene and fits in with the pace.
All
in all this is a hard graphic novel not to like. It has starship
battles, a revenge story, a love story and best of all R2D2
is still there. It is also a classic clash between good and
evil and that sure isn't a bad thing.
