From
the twisted and endlessly-innovative mind of award-winning
writer Warren Ellis comes Planetary, a mysterious organisation
endlessly probing and dissecting the secret history of Earth...
In
Crossing Worlds, Planetary probe a little too far,
tearing the very fabric of reality and finding themselves
in alternate universes. This collection features three very
distinct tales where Planetary encounter jackbooted metahumans
The Authority; a twisted incarnation of fabled superteam JLA;
and various versions of the Dark Knight himself, Batman.
All
three stories are enjoyable, but it was the third tale, Night
on Earth, that really had me smiling. I loved Ellis's
take on Batman - in this universe Dick Grayson and
the Joker work together on the side of the law. Add to Ellis's
fantastic script the beautiful illustrations of John Cassaday
and you have a winning combination.
The
other two stories, illustrated by Phil Jimenez and Jerry Ordway,
are well above average tales and all three are easy to dip
into - so you don't even really need to be that familiar with
the history of Planetary.
If
you are looking for something a little different, with tongue
firmly in cheek, then this could be just the comic you need.
