Now more than halfway across the country, Earth's sole surviving
human male (Yorick Brown) and his companions (cloning specialist
Dr. Allison Mann and government agent 355) are preparing for
the final leg of their journey to San Francisco, where Dr.
Mann's most important experiment awaits. But before they can
leave, they need to get antibiotics for the planet's only
other living male - Yorick's monkey, Ampersand. For Yorick,
that means an enforced stay in the back country of Colorado
with one of 355's former associates, the retired agent 711...
Safeworld
is
the fourth book in this collection. And, to be honest, is
probably the one that moves the story on the least. By it's
conclusion we are really right back where we started - nothing
has advanced - and you could quiet easily skip this collection
and not really miss anything. Having said that, there is a
bit of a revelation about Dr. Mann's work, but other than
that, our heroes merely stop for a while, get into a few sticky
problems and then carry on with their journey.
But,
while it doesn't move the main story on, there are some gripping
story twists. 355's old friend, 711, has a secret - one that
Yorick won't be expecting, and Yorick discovers a repressed
memory from his past that he must confront.
If
you've already read the other graphic novels in this series
(Unmanned,
Cycles
and One
Small Step) then you'll need to add this to
your collection. Another entertaining Y: The Last Man collection.
