The
sixth collection of Conan's classic comic-strip adventures
finds the barbarian pitching the steel of his sword against
the spells and curses of an ancient evil. Can muscle, metal
and sinew defeat ethereal incantations?...
The
Curse of the Golden Skull and Other Stories will
offer few surprises for fans of the series. It's exactly as
you've come to expect - engaging stories and magnificent art
work.
The
art work is something I wanted to dwell on for a moment. It's
interesting to see, despite several artists working on this
collection, that the illustrations are very similar. It's
very difficult to see where one artist leaves off and another
takes up the tale. And this adds something to the collection.
It's great to see that the artists, unlike a lot of today's
illustrators, are not desperately trying to put their own
stamp on their segment of the stories - that each writer's
first responsibility is to the retelling of the tale.
And
what a great collection of barbaric tales we have too. Although,
as I've said before The Chronicles of Conan will not
be to everyone's taste.
