Renee
Montoya has a secret. She's a grade A detective but her reputation
is put on the line when she's implicated in a murder and her
deepest secret is revealed. Suddenly, her colleagues in the
GCPD look at her askance, begin treating her with hostility,
and when she needs their support the most, she finds mostly
cold shoulders. The man who reaches out to her, though, is
one who belongs behind bars. If free, he presents a grave
threat not only to Montoya but to all Gotham's citizens...
Half
a Life is
another spin off tale from the
Gotham Central
series. While not up to the same high standard as In
the Line of Duty, this release again focusses
on the lives of the officers in the police department housed
in Gotham City.
This
collection sees the Batman pop his head in to remind everyone
where we are, but apart from that this tale is very much a
story about one detective, Renee Montoya. Not only is she
having problems on her patch as she is implemented in a murder,
but her personal life gets put through the wash too.
When
stripped to its bare bones, this story is pretty straight
forward, and it is a credit to Greg Rucka's writing skills
that he manages to stretch the material for as long as he
does.
If
you want to see another side of Gotham City then you certainly
won't be disappointed here.
