Just as things have returned to normal for everyone on Terra
Obscura, including the members of S.M.A.S.H., a mysterious
object appears on the edge of their galaxy - and it's on a
collision course with the planet. Even more distressing is
that the object appears to be the spacecraft of long-lost
hero Captain Future. As the ship nears, time anomalies crop
up over the entire planet, wreaking terrible havoc the closer
it gets. Can Tom Strange and the other heroes unravel this
mystery before it spells doom for the entire planet?...
Volume
Two of
Terra Obscura
sees more odd goings on in the near duplicate Earth which
Tom Strong discovered in 1968. This planet, which Strong called
Terra Obscura, was attacked by an alien soon after Strong
returned home. The result being that Terra Obscura's future
changed considerably.
If
you're not familiar with the characters in Terra Obscura,
this might not be the best place to start. While it's not
overly difficult to get into the plot, it really does help
if you have some prior knowledge of what has gone on before.
There
are plenty of subplots to keep you turning the pages. What
dreadful secret is Tim hiding? Just what exactly has Captain
Future (or, thanks to a promotion in his absence, Colonel
Future as he is now known) got to do with the strange time
shifts? And can our heroes stop the atomic bomb from falling
on Hiroshima?
The
artwork is impressive and the writing is spot on - even if
Alan Moore manages to take top billing even though he didn't
actually appear to have written any of the script.
Another
worthy addition to the Terra Obscura series.
